Flaming nods her head, "Alright then! We're on our way. Come on everyone, let's get moving."

"Ecclesia's been moving people all over the place lately," Gjenganger explains. "Many bases have been glad to have the extra help, and the refugees have been glad to have a place to go and weapons to fight with. I can ask where some of them have gone and put in a message to some bases, but don't expect to find many right away."

>>698718
Gjenganger shrugs. "Perhaps I am biased, being a member of the Congregation, but from what I've seen, a growing majority of them have been glad for the opportunity to fight back. The sting of being worthless, weak and small is a horrific thing, and any opportunity to grow stronger is welcomed by many."

You proceed up through the city toward the royal palace upon the hill, finding, as usual, the entrances heavily guarded by teams of praetorians, led by a particularly big guard, whom Vice and Trapper recognize as Captain Amon. Box, Mocha and Busta grow nervous as you climb the many steps to the palace.
"Don't you think we should wait out here, out of sight?" Busta asks.
"That would be a good idea," Mocha adds.
Chorazin glances about the city under repair. "You think you two are going to have a rough welcome… I'm an angel in a city near destroyed by one.

KP sees that it is still early in the morning. The statues do not answer, and go back to their stony forms once Flaming steers the cart past.

The golem stands clear to allow the cart to pass and Flaming directs the Rumblers to pull it further along the shore. The river swells as you forage onward, joining the trees and the caterpillar in presenting you with a feeling of smallness in an increasingly mysterious and dangerous world. The travel takes some time, but from following the river faithfully, in time you see a place where the path ends abruptly in a great waterfall. You are able to safely approach the edge of the shore for a better look ahead, and behold a massive temple, square in shape, with an inner building surrounded by a great outer wall, with architecture ancient and partly concealed and consumed by massive vines and the roots of towering trees. Your companions gasp and mutter to one another as you behold it. The river at the base of the fall proceeds onward, and appears to pass through the temple where it meets it.

"It looks like it," Zjetya answers. She gestures to the side, and you see an old stone path in the wall of the ravine, leading downward. "It looks like that's our best bet for getting down there, but we can't be certain how safe the path is."

KP peers down the side of the cliff, then over to the path as Zjetya points it out.
"What if one of us walks with you through the path ahead of the others? That way we can see if it's sturdy, and since you can fly we don't have to worry about any risk of falling cause you can catch whoever is with you!"

Flaming keeps a careful tug on the reins at all times during the trip along the river's edge, shuddering to herself slightly with the imposing aura of everything around her as they find themselves moving through the tremendous forest.

As they reach the edge of the water-fall and get a sight of the temple ahead, Flaming looks on at the massive, distant architecture with awe, poking at Amy's side as she answers her question, "Almost… look at THAT!"

She keeps the cart moving carefully down the slope as they make for the entrance at the bottom of the falls, "That place IS huge, Pryce. I can't imagine how long it must have taken to make something like that."

"If we only have until 'the end of the day,' we should try to get a move on," Zjetya says, flying above the cart rather than scouting ahead. "That temple complex looks too big for us to waste a lot of time in."

As Flaming rolls the cart down the sidelong path, the travel is slow and steady, as the path, artificially carved by the look of it, is narrow and steep. However, from behind, Flaming starts to hear the near-imperceptible padding of something trailing them from behind. Flow picks up on the sound far sooner than Flaming, and with careful attention scans the treeline on top of the path's walls. He spies a black monster, with a body like a panthe, a head sleek like an aligator's, and a massive tail, the end of which curls into a set of long claws, padding through the trees and undergrowth, carefully stalking you.

Amon blinks slowly, his face severe. He eyes Busta, Mocha, Box and Chorazin most of all, but says nothing of them. "That is a much more serious order of business than I had initially guessed. Come with me, then."

He leads the party through the palace briskly, and all other royal attendants, scribes and the like who are passing through the halls quickly get out of his way at the mere sight of his unspoken urgency. He takes you up a set of many stairs and down another hall on the third floor, eventually reaching an open balcony, where the aged-looking King and Prince Novelus look out, gazing upon their kingdom, flanked by royal guards. Upon entering, Amon bows. "Your majesty?"

The King and the Prince turn to look at you. Novelus smiles with solemn reservation, but he is obviously happy to see all of you again.

"Your Majesty, please forgive the oddness of our company. We have traveled far and seen great things. And amongst all great journeys there are always friends to be found. That is indeed an Angel you see before you, though she was and is still equine in spirit and Mariposan to the soul. The drider, half pony, half spider is the grand daughter of Buiwong, God of Fables and Spiders. And our peculiar fly friend was once a subject of Mudi, one of the 4 witches of Gehenna. It is for the sanctity and preservation of this world that is our mission. Very soon we shall be traveling into Tartarus to secure our mission. We ask that even though our lives may be forfeit for this cause that you allow us access to your vault, which holds Zha Arlakanes fabled weapons. We have procured one of the tablets held by the dead Sons of Gods."

"I am aware of this so-called 'Tartarus Expedition' from Ecclesia's intelligence and a prior meeting with Flow," King Lininas begins. "There is no need of an introduction for it. It greatly pleases me to have the second stone tablet. The other was recovered from Vitral by Ecclesian Spooks and delivered courtesy of Doctor Galton. It is true that we will be again able to open the sacred vault with these, since the current keys were lost to time."

Prince Novelus looks down with a little expression of guilt for having lost the first magatama.

"But there are a number of problems with your request. Under ordinary circumstances, by rule of the royal cult, no non-sheep is even to have access to the Royal Palace, much less the vault. And even if handing over the legendary weapons within the vault were not sacrilegious enough in itself, there are further issues. We do not know much of what is even down in the vault, for ancient records have little details to their contents, outside of ancient poetry describing the destruction they can create. Even in these dire times, it is questionable whether we would want to employ them for our OWN use, much less give them to you, either to destroy yourselves from their misuse, or to fall into the hands of a demon therein."
