 No.459[Last 50 Posts]

First off, I know that there is a perfectly good Dwarf Fortress thread on this board already, which has a number of helpful guides and info graphs posted. But that's not why I'm making this thread, its not a general thread. As always the hiatus is long and MLPG is upset, so I'd thought I'd try and organize a complicated and lengthy vidya project for us to get collectively frustrated over. You know, for fun!

>What is this exactly?

This is a succession/bloodline game of Dwarf Fortress. Chances are if you've heard of Dwarf Fortress, you've heard about the infamous legend of Boatmurdered, a succession game that was done on the Something Awful forums once upon a time. I want to organize a game like that for here.

>What is a succession/bloodline game?

Essentially it works like this: One of us starts a new game in fortress mode and play the game as we see fit. We continue this way until a set amount of time (in this case one in game year, or when Spring Has Arrived!). Once that happens we drop everything no matter what, save and quit, take the save game file and send it to the next person. We continue like this until the fort is inevitably destroyed or until this whole thing just falls apart or gets no interest. Which ever.

As we do, we take various screen shots of notable events or people or projects or simply things you want to point out and post them here with your commentary. You can be humorous or serious or do it in a journal style, however. Just be engaging and have fun.

>What do I do if I want to participate?

The game is open for all of MLPG. Simply post here expressing your want to be in this and I'll put you on the list. However keep in mind that this thing is going to be screwy on its own, so if you are completely new to Dwarf Fortress this is not exactly the best way for you to start learn.

Oh and for simplicity's sake, post with a name. More then one anon will just get confusing.

>What you will I need?

If you don't already, you'll want to download the latest version of Dwarf Fortress (0.34.11). Compatibility will be key here so everyone will need the same version. Besides that you'll need to know how take screen shots of your game and also how to pretty them up in a separate program, if you want to do that. Dwarf Therapist is also recommended, but not strictly needed.

>How will we be sending/receiving each other our save files?

We'll work that out based on what's easiest for everyone, probably being either email or drop box or some other easy free file sharing application.

>How long will I have to play/post my stuff/until I need to end my turn and send my save?

We'll work that out once I get an idea of how many people/how much enthusiasm there is for this. At the moment I'm thinking giving everyone about a one week deadline, but that's subject to change, especially as things progress or there's issues. We'll see.

>Why aren't we using the pony mod?

I'm well aware there is a My Little Pony mod for Dwarf Fortress, but I'm avoiding it here. Why? One, seeing as this game involves importing and exporting save files, the last thing we need is some compatibility issue cropping up that no one can figure out because of using other party add-on's. And two…..we'll I just plain don't like it. I like the show and everything, but not everything needs some pony gimmick. And it doesn't really make a lot of sense for ponies to be living inside a mined out mountain anyway.

>Can I at least name the dwarfs?

Yes, and you are encouraged to do so. Just don't rename any dwarfs that a previous player has already named.

>When will sign up be open?

I'm keeping a tentative deadline set for 5th of May, a little over a week from now, though this is subject to change.

>I have other questions!

By all means if anyone has any additional questions, comments or simply want to call me names this thread is for that and I'll get around to answering them within a day or two.

Want to play MLPG Boatmurdered? Post here.

I'd play the fuck out of this.

Thats one

We could start after getting 1-2 more people and hope the stories draw in more players.

Or play 2 years/leader until we get more people.

Yeah, we'll see how things turn out. Still, I'm going to keep it open for as long as I said I would

That's a bit long of a time, but okay.

I could start up a normal fort now and post logs of it to draw some attention, shall I?

If you want, I could even make a megaproject or something to spice it up.

No need to do anything just yet. Even if were were to start today this thing will still take a while to come about. That's sort of the point.

May 5th is the deadline even if no one else shows up

And once again the sub has surfaced. Now that the technical complications are out of the way, lets move on to the technical complications.

Papa Nurgle, as the only person (aside from the other guy on the temp site who's name escapes me but is still welcome to join if he chimes in) here, what would be easiest for you in terms of sending/receiving save files? We can try email, though I doubt the data limits will be tolerable, or we can try Dropbox, which I hardly have a grasp on but will learn if need be.

Also is one full week a good set time for you to run your turn? You can post all your stuff then or when the next person is playing.

And speakign of posting the stuff, I've accumulated some of my own already and ready to start posting, though I'm not all done yet. I'm going to start posting them in this thread soon-ish, but feel free to continue discussion or meta talk.

Dropbox is fine by me.

Honestly, I could do my turn in an hour if it went smoothly, but I'd like to take more time. A week's a bit much for one whole year, but several days would be great in case of delays.

Ok lets make it three days then. Sound good? A good turn over is nice, but I dont want anyone to feel rushed

Also I'll start posting my run tonight and continue to do so in sporadic updates as I go through my year.

File: 1368151119742.png (27.55 KB, 406x515, Dawn of a New Era.png)

Despite several years of minding their own business and trying to keep things in one mountain home, a group of dwarfs are forcible ejected from their ancestral places of origin by the king and shunned into the dangerous, unforgiving wilderness. Though they did nothing wrong themselves, their complaints fall on death ears and they are forced to make do as best they can under the circumstances.

Hopefully somewhere out there in the grand Dimension of Griffons there is a place to pick up the pieces and thrive once again.

File: 1368152732081.png (69.17 KB, 1349x629, Volcano.png)

We need some place safe, a area with many natural resources for which to prosper, and area…..wait, is that a volcano?

Oh baby, oh man! Forget everything else, its a freaking volcano!

File: 1368154685419.png (10.25 KB, 1359x192, Waywardrelic.png)

We will put down roots and rise again in this new home, this….Waywardrelic?

Really? Wow, ok. That's kinda….head on the nail, but whatever its fine.

File: 1368155771639.png (7.22 KB, 829x144, Ponies.png)

And what better group of seven to lay down he foundation then the six best friends from the show. And Spike too!

File: 1368156097041.png (47.02 KB, 1099x673, Start.png)

That's right. Just park the wagon right on the very edge of the slop of the mountain. Great planning, Twilight. A+

File: 1368156652671.png (32.09 KB, 1094x667, Volcano.png)

Oh sorry, correction. They parked the wagon full of all their supplies on the steep slopes of the VOLCANO. My bad.

File: 1368157545248.png (55.87 KB, 1091x667, Plans.png)

Though to be fair, this spot has potential. The slop crops out in an interesting little peninsula, which could be extremely defendable with some improvements. Take out the slopes, put up some walls, ad a draw bridge. This isn't a bad spot at all.

File: 1368157965487.png (66.8 KB, 1093x667, River.png)

The head of a brook is just south of here, giving easy access to fresh water and fish. And with plentiful trees in every direction, this place has all the trappings to be a good healthy fort.

I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

File: 1368158213254.png (52.53 KB, 1089x661, Strike the earth.png)

So without further ado, lets get started. The first stairs are are marked for digging. Spike gets ready.

File: 1368158531161.png (34.47 KB, 1093x661, Dig.png)

The plans show the initial entrance will run just under the surface, but then loop back up to level inside the mountain….err, volcano. The entire thing is large enough to house a vast population once set up properly. And this way there shouldn't be too many super long stair cases to stumble down. At least not yet.

File: 1368158954155.png (6.52 KB, 1091x657, Warehouse.png)

But before we get that far, there's the more pressing concern of getting all of the supplies stashed away indoors. This are is mostly calm as of now, but that doesn't mean a raving horde of angry badgers wont just come waltzing across the map and eat all the food. A moderately sized warehouse just inside the entrance should suffice, not to mention keep Spike busy for a while. And once the fort is better organized and supplied better distributed, this room can become a barracks or something.

File: 1368159347092.png (46 KB, 703x583, Wood.png)

And speaking of keeping busy, a lot of wood will be needed in the days to come, so Fluttershy is put to work. Who else is better qualified to wield a large heavy axe to deforest the immediate area?

File: 1368159748344.png (4.52 KB, 798x134, 2cat.png)

Of course the group didn't come here alone. Along for the ride came some dogs, cats and a [air of stallions as work animals.

Which give the circumstances is odd for a number of reasons….

File: 1368160186484.png (407.43 KB, 767x514, Kakapo.png)

Despite all the nature everywhere, there's hardly any animals to speak of. Just a falcon and a…….kakapo?

The heck is a kakapo?

File: 1368160467558.png (10.23 KB, 1089x667, Stuff.png)

Spike finishes the room in no time, digging up a number of milk quartz gems along the way to boot! They, along with the supplies, are brought in for safe keeping as the young dragon continues to dig.

File: 1368160785491.png (80.13 KB, 1339x647, Gems.png)

Rarity gets to work turning the rough stones in to sparkling works of art to later be sold at a criminally high price. Winter is coming and some trade will make the first year easier for the small fort.

File: 1368161066141.png (25.92 KB, 789x667, Farm.png)

Just beyond the were house dump the hall returns to surface level inside the mountain, just below where the wagon is. Since this are appears to be mostly sand and soil, its the perfect spot for an extensive farm that will feed many.

File: 1368161265398.png (1.77 KB, 221x82, Food.png)

….though it will be some time before the farms are dug out, let alone producing anything. And the existing meager supplies are finite.

File: 1368161423515.png (50.73 KB, 1037x531, Butcher.png)

So its not unreasonable to take some extra precautions, right?

File: 1368161625483.png (5.62 KB, 912x152, Slaughter.png)

I mean, there's nothing WRONG with this. Everyone has to eat, right? And we don't really need two male horses, right?

But still, who do you even get to do this deed?

File: 1368161804497.png (792 B, 495x85, Oh no.png)

I'm not even a little surprised.

File: 1368162086668.png (2.86 KB, 444x162, MEAT.png)

In a matter of moments, the foods stores are full again….at least as far as meat is concerned.

One wonders how this situation played out. Did she tempt him over to the copping block with promises of candy and fun games? Did a whole musical number play out with the final note the sound of a cleaver coming down? Did the others just watch things unfold?

Maybe its best not to dwell on such things.

File: 1368162602296.png (39.41 KB, 1083x657, Done.png)

Luckily Spike makes short work of the farm, so there's no need for a repeat performance just yet. Fluttershy gets right to work laying down furrows and….wait, why is Fluttershy doing this? Between the tree chopping and the farming, something must have gotten mixed up somewhere.

Whatever. Seeds are put down none the less and soon fresh produce will be the order of the day.

File: 1368162934338.png (36.49 KB, 851x359, Craft.png)

Rarity, despite having cut all the gems in all sorts of ways, has nothing to show for it as they're just sitting in their bins, unused. That's hardly what they're worth, so she gets to work making some crafts to garnish up. In loo of any kind of clothing or textiles, wood will have to, as this has more then enough of it.

File: 1368163063704.jpg (100.51 KB, 560x451, dawww.jpg)

YO, I'm in on this, sound like it might be hysterical and FUN

File: 1368163435214.png (50.82 KB, 1095x685, Hall.png)

Nothing seems to slow Spike down and quickly a massive meeting hall in dug out deep in the mountain, though still a respectable distance from the burning heart of the volcano. Now everyone has place to hang out and kick back, away from that nasty sun and kakapos.

Wonderful. Once I finish off my year I'll start getting drop box in order/rounding up contact info to get things under way. Nurgle's up first and I'm only going part way tonight, so just sit tight for now.

File: 1368163743616.png (51.69 KB, 1225x617, Pasture.png)

But its going to be a PEOPLE meeting hall, no horses allowed. The one remaining stallion is put out to pasture by the river where he can contemplate how much time he has left.

File: 1368163961318.png (39.85 KB, 947x461, Applejack.png)

The meeting hall, still not fully furnished, finds immediate use from Applejack. She's so tired from…….uhhh…..having Fluttershy do all the work she just takes a nap right on the floor while the dogs watch.

What a silly pony.

File: 1368165325355.png (176.41 KB, 1000x800, 1344263588096.png)

>building inside of a volcano

Might not be able to play until tuesday, just as a heads up.

Actually yeah something has sorta come up for me.

PERSONAL BLOG PERSONAL BLOG PERSONAL BLOG I found a job and it looks like it will consume nearly all of my time. I'll still do everything I can do get this going, but it might be just a little bit longer

File: 1368659074246.png (16.45 KB, 651x911, necrobros.png)

This was certainly not what I expected to happen when I settled on top of a necromancer tower.

dorf is dead long live dorf

File: 1369005973864.png (28.16 KB, 729x419, CHANGE.png)

I know, I'm sorry. My schedule has been really hectic and exhausting lately, but I still want to do this.

Anywho, it really doesnt make a lot of sense for Fluttershy to be doing all the farming, so I'm switching up some of her jobs with Applejack and letting her take over the carpentry.

File: 1369006085520.png (22.82 KB, 846x396, FARM.png)

Hopefully this will make things far less silly

File: 1369006269850.png (27.27 KB, 542x381, what the heck.png)

Though the farm is up and running, the small room for the seeds is still under construction. Without it farming is going to take forever. Where is Spike?

File: 1369006487417.png (14.35 KB, 1327x402, SPIKE.png)

Spike you fat lazy baby

File: 1369006667124.png (36.62 KB, 721x533, DROM.png)

Luckily this room is done, so now some beds can be set up and make it a dorm. Now everyone wont have to sleep face down in the dirt.

File: 1369006905530.png (601 B, 217x14, Migrants.png)

Oh look, some migrants have arrived.

File: 1369007167564.png (55.46 KB, 1094x667, smart.png)

Yup, that's right. Don't bother going around the active volcano. Just take the shortest route possible and skirt right by the magma on the craggy peak. No its perfectly fine, not at all a bad idea.

File: 1369007333988.png (788 B, 288x28, Marker.png)

Who would be stupid enough to not only do that but follow along with this train wreck of a fort?

Well there's Marker pony,

File: 1369007451685.png (958 B, 384x30, fallenPineapple.png)

fallenPineapple, a Seige Engineer

File: 1369007650550.png (636 B, 224x25, Leth.png)

Leth, who ironically likes to shoot small animals

File: 1369008107049.png (2.02 KB, 316x82, Farmers.png)

A trio of farmers, Glitter Glue, Tex and FacelessJR. They'll all be working directly with Applejack, which I'm sure they'll enjoy greatly

File: 1369008192614.png (826 B, 321x33, Archive.png)

Archive, who's just a little guy

File: 1369008256581.png (842 B, 328x28, Nathan.png)

And finally….Nathan.

File: 1369008381680.png (43.34 KB, 1095x671, Seeds.png)

At least with this influx of fresh horsefuckers Spike gets back to work and things start getting done.

File: 1369011036275.png (27.58 KB, 455x563, EATING.png)

There's some expansion on the meeting hall. A few kitchens and brewery areas are dug out so the food can be made fast, and then put in a big pantry stockpile so everyone can just grab what they what its done. Also a few stairs leading down for even more stockpiles for the raw stuff.

I'm past the edge of my seat now. I have such anticipation that I am sitting on the air in front of my seat.

Keep going, Scrubbles.

File: 1369157375851.png (17.47 KB, 842x435, Twilight build.png)

Autumn is coming soon and that means merchants. An influx of fresh supplies will be a serious boon to the budding fort, so Twilight sets up a depot for trading near the pasture.

File: 1369157857940.png (85.57 KB, 1360x704, expanion.png)

Things are coming along quickly. An entire barracks is carved out, as well as sleeping quarters for the future army and an armory for all their junk. Plus, a room was made just to house barrels for the kitchens to use.

Spike is doing so well at digging he has become legendary as a miner.

>"In the ancient times of myth, there were tales of a young dragon who was a legendary miner. I mean, he was like REALLY good at digging. You should have seen it, man."

File: 1369158182676.png (16.28 KB, 1085x655, SMART IDEA.png)

Food production is doing well, defense will take a little while to start up. What should be done now?

File: 1369158396392.png (72.82 KB, 936x640, migrants.png)

But before that silly fun time can start, more people show up. This batch shows some more promise, as they did not trek right on top of the volcano like the last bunch.

File: 1369159529452.png (598 B, 217x26, LK.png)

Heading off the group is LK, a farmer

File: 1369159638640.png (584 B, 214x27, MT.png)

MT, a miner

I guess you could say she's a coal miner!

File: 1369159774570.png (907 B, 352x33, Moron.png)

MoronSonOfBoron, mighty hunter

File: 1369159881816.png (721 B, 261x31, Aspirant.png)

Aspirant, who stains clothes

File: 1369159960800.png (752 B, 297x31, Anonymous.png)

Anonymous, probably the most import fella here

File: 1369160047798.png (850 B, 348x36, Artanon.png)

And ArtAnon, who stokes the flames

File: 1369160209873.png (26.03 KB, 1085x659, TOGETHER.png)

Once everyone settles in, Spike and MT team up to dig out the considerably long hallway to the molten center of the mountain. MT has trouble keeping up with Spike's LEGENDARY ABILITY

File: 1369160574039.png (11.68 KB, 763x510, simple.png)

The plan is simple.

MT and Spike will carve out some rooms here to be used for forges and smelters, taking in power from a simple channel of magma tubes dug underneath them. Thus the fort has free fuel and wonderful metal goods can be made quickly and easily….once we find some usable metal ore, that is. This may seem very dangerous, but its all very run of the mill. Or forge, in this case.

File: 1369160722855.png (11.28 KB, 508x455, easy.png)

Just below a very simple plumbing system is set up for the magma to flow along to power the workshops above. Spike goes over to dig out the retaining wall for the magma.

File: 1369160841476.png (699 B, 228x31, GEMS.png)

And the moment he does, he discovered even more gems! The fort is practically swimming in riches!

File: 1369161013324.png (27.7 KB, 1360x704, Spike is ded.png)

Oh and Spike sort of….died.

In the magma.

File: 1369161405829.png (36.01 KB, 1360x704, exstatic.png)

Please Twilight, don't cry. We'll get through this tragedy together, somehow. Everything is going to be ok.

File: 1369161615360.png (12.05 KB, 957x249, SHIPPING.png)

So yeah. Apprently Twilight and Fluttershy have been spending a lot of time together in the meeting hall.

The one Spike built all by himself. Who is now dead.

File: 1369172218158.png (3.44 KB, 757x121, missing.png)

Well to be fair it would appear no one actually KNOWS Spike is dead. No one really saw him go down there and the magma destroyed all the evidence, so everyone just kinda assumes he's missing.

File: 1369173876532.png (17.19 KB, 1074x532, start.png)

Still, the last thing we need is him rising from the ground and scaring everyone out of their pants, so its time to start construction on a catacomb for the dead. MT is the only miner left, so it may take a while.

File: 1369174587558.png (31.57 KB, 727x645, end.png)

The graves will start at the highest peak, roughly the same height of the volcano and continue downwards as needed.

File: 1369174776858.png (924 B, 401x15, Spike.png)

>"Anyone else notice Spike hasn't been around for a while?"

>"Think he's ok?"

>"I dunno. He was working with the magma tubes a while ago."

>"I'm sure he's fine."

File: 1369175520935.png (45.56 KB, 917x525, slab.png)

Twilight builds a memorial slab. Rarity engraves Spike's name on it.

No one thinks anyone of it.

File: 1369175652107.png (1016 B, 461x13, moron.png)

Uh oh!

File: 1369175766684.png (1.18 KB, 537x15, boop.png)

File: 1369175914823.png (2.92 KB, 475x121, scepter.png)

Luckily he only needed a number of rocks to mash together into a scepter.

File: 1369175998915.png (5.1 KB, 1357x72, pathspread.png)

Wow its….pretty lame.

File: 1369176649064.png (53.22 KB, 725x699, merchants.png)

Oh good, some relief. Maybe we can trade a few rocks for something to eat.

File: 1369177152631.png (5.27 KB, 862x216, broker.png)

But oh no, we have no broker!

Who do we get be in charge of trade?

File: 1369177737251.png (11.23 KB, 813x235, Aspirant.png)

Oh, Aspirant, of course!

He is the only one with any relevant skills. ANY. The entire fort is made of anti social shut in rejects who cant even tell a joke. And even Aspirant isnt much of anything.

File: 1369178352376.png (18.66 KB, 791x372, not much.png)

Rarity was literally the only one doing anything in terms of making trade goods and it was less then impressive for the merchants. A few large gems and pine armlets could only get a few bars, a peahen, some seeds and a smattering of food. Hardly a huge haul, but its more then there was.

File: 1369341963912.png (59.7 KB, 1087x661, winter is coming.png)

And just in time for the changing of the seasons

It may very well be a long winter

File: 1369342593507.png (11.04 KB, 1081x552, what could go wrong.png)

Despite the close proximity to an active volcano, the near by brook, the only local course of fresh drinking water, freezes over. Luckily the fort is well stocked with a ready surplus of alcohol for everyone to survive off of.

This actually is a good opportunity to dig an under ground aqueduct to lead into the fort. This way Dash and the others can fish safely in the protection of the stone walls of home, the fish can get to the kitchen faster and a well can be build for a place for everyone to wash themselves or drink water if, goodness forbid, there's ever a shortage on booze. And with the water way frozen, MT can mine out the entire thing without risk of flooding and drowning.

If she's quick enough to finish before the thaw, that is.

File: 1369342783037.png (76.87 KB, 1058x658, snow.png)

The weather takes a turn for the worst early in the season. Everyone venturing outside, primarily those who use the workshops, have to contend with the freezing conditions and constant snow.

As the finishing touches are being done on the peak tomb, Spike's memorial is set in place. Its been months and no one still has any idea what happened to him, he is simply forever missing.

No one is bothered by this in the slightest. Everyone is upset at the snow then over what happened to Spike.

File: 1369343349098.png (42.43 KB, 831x561, Expansion.png)

Life goes on.

The farm is expanded someone. A room is made for the future site of a mill room, with a adjacent stockpile for mill able plants from the farms. Windmills will need to be constructed above ground and that may take some time.

File: 1369343563619.png (6.25 KB, 861x252, commander.png)

Things are going rather well (aside from the earlier magma thing). It might be a good time to start shoring up some defenses and a standing military. But first we'll need to decide on a commander for the militia.

But who is best suited to lead others into battle, to inspire those around them with valor and fight against the likes of goblins, ogres and worse?

File: 1369343662360.png (895 B, 418x14, Anon.png)

The choice is obvious

File: 1369343891144.png (14.32 KB, 792x375, tired.png)

But no one Anon, no matter how brave, can stand alone against the dangers that threaten. He'll need a squad, fellow soldiers to train and fight beside.

This new squad is dubbed The…..Walled Tiredness.

Yeah you know. Cause they're gunna…..put the enemies to sleep. For good. Or something.

File: 1369344121021.png (12.23 KB, 792x241, squad.png)

Nathan, LK, Artanon, and FacelessJR are recruited to join this crack group. The population is small, so all the positions arent filled as the man power isnt available and there's really no need to have a full quad when there isnt enough equipment for this lot.

File: 1369344238229.png (8.22 KB, 824x232, training.png)

The bunch of them are put to training, set to do so every other month so they don't bitch about training too much.

File: 1369344428875.png (62.29 KB, 1348x670, baracks.png)

And now that the barracks is mostly ready, they have an excellent place to do so. The dinning hall is next door, so they can get food readily and once some more beds are made, they can also sleep here, too. Weapons stands are also still needed to store equipment, but for now the floor and the underground armory will have to suffice.

File: 1369344601939.png (14.57 KB, 767x664, ice.png)

MT breaches the ice wall to the frozen brook, a bit later in the season then was desirable. Her inexperience is showing. Hopefully it wont cost her too much….

File: 1369344722921.png (13.91 KB, 749x624, baby.png)

…but it doesnt today.

Luckily is is considerably safer to work with then molten rock.

File: 1369345055217.png (42.99 KB, 1327x472, KOBOLD.png)

A stinking little kobold showed up at the front entrance look for shit to steal! The scrawny little burrower surprises Leth as he returns from hunting and then runs off like the coward all its kind is before the militia can arrive.

A troubling encounter, but ultimately uneventful.

File: 1369345246453.png (18.69 KB, 1346x687, AND ANOTHER ONE.png)

File: 1369345514339.png (36.77 KB, 917x451, no escape.png)

Entering the fortress will be its undoing. All the exits are sealed and the little thief has no place to go but face the militia.

File: 1369345673606.png (12.06 KB, 1024x575, Faceless.png)

The civilians flee as the kobold scurries around to find a way out, but is met by FacelessJR.

The new recruit faces off against the vermin solo.

File: 1369345813155.png (7.51 KB, 749x112, backstab.png)

Unfortunately Faceless is completely unarmed as there aren't enough weapons and armor to go around. The kobold, however, brandishes a dagger and stoops to such cowardly tactics as he tried to stab FacelessJR in the back.

File: 1369345949386.png (14.08 KB, 607x242, bones.png)

FacelessJR decides to level the playing field by logically breaking every bone in the kobold's arm so it is no longer able to wield the dagger.

File: 1369346092887.png (9.44 KB, 841x486, ded.png)

After that is was a simple mater of punching it in the brain. Faceless leaves for someone else to clean up the mess.

File: 1369346218862.png (44.85 KB, 907x568, dump.png)

Spike's memory in enshrined inside a loft peak to be remembered forever by his friends.

The kobold is given no such honor and is left to rot in the dump by the entrance.

File: 1369347077130.png (54.94 KB, 1100x681, SPRING HAS ARRIVED.png)

Goodness, has it been a year already?

As the last of the winter frost melts away and gives way to the warmth of a new year, the fort Waywardrelic sits defiantly established in the shadow of grumbling volcano The Robust Cinder. One of their number has been lost and will surely not be the last. But through the starting hardships and tragedies, small victories were had. A small incursion of thieves foreshadows future challenges that will present themselves in time. Only time will tell if the fort has the metal to survive.

So that's my year. I hope anyone who has been following along has been enjoying things so far.

I am going to do a few quick screen caps of the fort as it exists and help illustrate some of the things for those watching at home. Then I will try and figure out Dropbox and pass things along.

The current list of players, in order, is:

>Scrubbing Bubbles (ME)

>Nurgle (Next)

Its not to late for anyone to sign up if they want to join in. Nurgle, I'll be getting to you soon enough once I get things in order. I will most likely have a very busy weekend and will try to get everything ready as soon as I am able.

Well, if you've got a dropbox set up, I'm ready to take it on now.

File: 1369503769543.png (54.97 KB, 1087x665, fort 1.png)

Just a final going over of the fortress so everyone at home can have a better idea of how everything is set up.

Most everything is set up at level 0. Here is the entrance and the famrs

File: 1369504172309.png (58.68 KB, 1087x665, fort 1+.png)

And here's a legend to better help understand.

1 - The farms
2 - the inner entrance/to the warehouse
3 - Outter entrance, leads topside.
4 - Seed stockpile for farm
5 - The public dormitory
6 - possible side for mills and a corresponding stockpile
7 - The trade depot, outside

File: 1369504323571.png (56.22 KB, 1087x659, more fort.png)

Following the main hall west, deeper into the mountain, the rest of the fortress and its amenities are more apparent.

File: 1369504688734.png (60.94 KB, 1087x659, more fort+.png)

1 - The main hall
2 - The kitchens and breweries
3 - barrels, for brewing
4 - finished food and alcohol stockpile
5 - raw food stockpiles, below ground
6 - pasture for animals, outside
7 - the barracks where soldiers train
8 - the armory, below ground
9 - sleeping quarters, currently without any beds
10 - future site for a well
11 - fisheries

File: 1369515131601.png (26.08 KB, 1082x662, magma.png)

Following the main hall north we approach the molten center of the active volcano. Here a number of areas have been set up for smelters and forges, though they havent been constructed yet. A stockpile room is also being set up for the raw materials.

The lone stare way just south of the forges leads up to the peak of the mountain.

File: 1369515333222.png (29.18 KB, 683x645, peak.png)

The stairs lead up to a single small room, which is used as a memorial hall for Spike. It is level with the top of the volcano, a good 6 levels up from the rest of the fort.

File: 1369515482845.png (43.34 KB, 993x562, topside.png)

One level above the main fort is the entrance area, which includes the dump and a shanty town of various workshops.

File: 1369515820763.png (16.49 KB, 1073x658, under.png)

And finally, one level under the main fort areas, are a number of conveniently placed stockpiles for the above areas, the main entrance/warehouse and a underground water way dug to receive water from the near by brook.

File: 1369516362508.png (19.64 KB, 1073x658, under+.png)

1 - the stairs leading to the entrance topside at level 1

2- the stairs leading to the fort in level 0

3 - The bulk stockpile warehouse that houses everything until dedicated stockpiles can be set up

4 - raw plants for the kitchen and brewing above

5 - raw meats

6 - the armory for the barracks just above

7 - the underside of where the well will go

8 - the channeled area for where fishing can be done.

And that's everything! I am officially done for now and moving things over for Nurgle. I'm still figuring out Dropbox, but if I did things correctly I do believe this link will give you the copy of the save file. It should be a simple matter of replacing your game's save folder with this one. I would recommend making a copy, just in case.

I'm giving you a week to get your turn done, though if you finish sooner or need more time it shouldn't be a problem.

Have fun!

File: 1369518220153.png (560.46 KB, 1257x1228, shipping chart.png)

Oh and one more thing. You're all probably interested in who's with who, so I made this handy dandy little shipping chart instead of posting a whole bunch more relationship screens.

The follow couples are married:

MT x MoronSonOfBoron

Glitter Glue x Marker (They have a child together, Archive)

ArtAnon x Anonymous

Leth x Nathan

FacelessJR x fallenPineapple

Both LK and Tex also have respective spouses, but they don't live in the fort.

Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash are lovers, as well as are Twilight and Fluttershy.

Everyone else lives lonely pathetic lives.

Overseer Nurgle, taking command.

Expect reports soon.

File: 1369775105472.png (22.38 KB, 667x335, Dorf 1.png)

>Waywardrelic Overseer's Log, 12th Granite, 659

Ah, what wonders! The mountainhome's given me control of a small fortress outpost, whose previous overseer seems to have resigned.

The first things I noticed were the average signs of a young fort; lack of a well, lack of metalworks, lack of food, lack of nobles…

Those have all been righted. Well, maybe not the food one, since we can't be sure until our new bookkeeper gives us how much we really have.

Early on, I found Art-Anon ignoring his furnace operating duties in favor of fishing; Fishing in the empty swamps.

Beyond that, I ordered Craftsdwarf Rarity to construct food and drink storage in the form of rock pots; the concept of making something so simple and bland seemed to upset her, but I do hope she'll get it done.

>Overseer's Log, 28th Slate, 659

30 migrants. Thirty.

Will include pictures and names later. Sorting out migrants.

File: 1369952066899.png (18.43 KB, 586x303, Dorf 2.png)

>Overseer's Log, 25th Felsite, 659

I've tidied up the fort much. Built a new crafts area, put migrants to work, and all that.

Elven merchants have just arrived over the hills, but it occurs to me suddenly that all of our valuables are stored in wooden vessels.

…Maybe I'll just have them 'vanish' and then 'find' a number of useful goods….

File: 1369952370264.png (2.26 KB, 103x162, dorf 3.png)

Nobody liked them anyways.

File: 1369957690452.png (14.21 KB, 651x323, Dorf 4.png)

>Overseer's Log, 15th Limestone, 659

Summer's gone past quickly.

The season started with a fishery worker going into a blind, screaming fury, producing an odd, but quite well made amulet.

Our first mayor was elected, and he was given quarters. He doesn't like us getting rid of medical supplies.

More immigrants showed up, as always.

An exploratory shaft, looking for ore, has uncovered a massive cavern deep in the earth. I'll have to send some miners and soldiers to give it a closer look.

Moron, Son of Boron, vanished one night, slain in the dining room, of all places! His blood was all missing, too. The priests suggest that we've a cursed dwarf among the populace.

Finally, a human caravan has appeared, and we've given them all of the gnomeblight we 'acquired' from the Elves. Hope they deal with that gnome problem.

File: 1369961035686.png (364.2 KB, 1280x984, Dorf 5.png)

Oh hey, stonesense is updated.

File: 1369969710861.png (5.95 KB, 543x153, dorf 6.png)

>Overseer's Log, 22nd Opal, 659

A filthy GOBLIN abducted a moody child who decided to work outside, so I have put a militia patrol in place to prevent future incidents.

The dwarven caravan came as expected, and we've given them a good trade for metal and food.

The vampire who killed Moron was caught trying to drain another poor citizen, and was entombed for it.

Spores from the deep caverns have come up and taken root in the farm area- Won't be hard to deal with, but perhaps some tower-caps in unused space wouldn't be so bad…

File: 1369971271052.png (386.3 KB, 1280x1024, dorf 7.png)

Spring has arrived!

Your turn, Seika.

I would play, if you are still allowing new entries.
I guess I would go after seika.

File: 1370240077372.gif (827.22 KB, 619x297, 12pro4umonhun.gif)

Yo dweebs, I'm done, be uploading my fort shenanigans later, so just a heads up

File: 1370317518368.png (158.06 KB, 1267x700, 1DANGASSGOBLINSTAKN'MAHKID….png)

I'm fairly new to all these dwarf shenanigans, therefore, managing these poor fucks is going be a challenge. Now I know that one cannot learn without making a few mistakes, BUT Jesus Christ all mighty, what the hell is even going on anymore. Not 5 min. into my arrival and already I'm being invaded by goblins wanting to eat my babies. Not on my fucking watch. I quickly put together a new rag-tag team of dwarves and send them of to kill the fucker.

File: 1370317695960.png (76.32 KB, 1259x739, 2DANGDINGOSTOLEMAHBABY.png)

Well.. shit.. seems I should've kept my eye on those OTHER FUCKING GOBLINS. They took one of the little ones and I'm grief stricken, but I must go on! Can't let this happen twice.

File: 1370317772467.png (395.06 KB, 1274x702, 3MORETHEIVES.png)

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT, MORE THEIVES, THEY BE STEALING MY SHINGLES! AND BY SHINGLES I MEAN MY SHIT. Oh, and the babies too I guess. Naturally, I sent my newly formed squad to deal with the fuckers, THAT should take care of our little goblin friends.

File: 1370317965499.png (344.11 KB, 1278x736, 4raritymoodswings.png)

So as my squads are off dealing with our little Goblin problem, it seems Rarity has taken it upon… himself? Herself? I dunno, too lazy to check. ANYWAY, Rarity is having mood swings and seems to be building something, MIGHT BE COOL, audino, I'll check on it later,

File: 1370318117245.png (365.84 KB, 1273x739, 5dumpingrocks.png)

So as I comb the corridors of the fortress I see that the previous manager lacked the decency to command the clean up of the hallways. LUCKILY, I can help with that. So I designate a little 3 by 3 room at the end of the hallway as a general dumping area and command the dwarves to start hauling shit. Naturally there's a lot of rocks to be hauled, but this shouldn't take long, so long as they don't get distra-

File: 1370318227364.png (382.44 KB, 1277x744, 6snatcher.png)

File: 1370318296246.png (116.42 KB, 1275x738, 7chasedoneawayothergotabab….png)

God. Fucking. Dammit.

File: 1370318518542.png (433.76 KB, 1275x731, 8raritytakesworkshop.png)

Shit, well.. I hate kids anyway. IN OTHER NEWS, Rarity has begun construction of a mysterious object. Now, I don't have much experience with these "mood swings" and "mysterious objects" the dwarves go off and build by themselves, so I'll just leave Rarity to do her/his own thing, while I go off and deal with other, more IMPORTANT matters, like…

File: 1370318704227.png (335.45 KB, 1275x738, 9buildingmanageroffice.png)

A BITCHIN' NEW MANAGER'S OFFICE! Yeah, I noticed one was missing so I decided to assign one and build an office for said dwarf for a smoother, more efficient workplace. Naturally I assign TWILY to be the manager, however, he seems preoccupied with building a floor, I hope it doesn't take too long…

File: 1370318791943.png (317.35 KB, 1274x737, 10rarityfinishessomething.png)

OH shit! Rarity finished something, I don't know what the fuck it is, so naturally I don't fucking care, OFF TO DIG HOLES AND SHIT. Gee, I hope I'm not interrupted by anythi-

File: 1370318916183.png (439.35 KB, 1274x741, 11MIGRATESARRIVE.png)

GREAT. LAZY MEXICA-, I mean illegal immigra-, I MEAN MIGRANTS, LAZY MIGRANTS. Gotta find them something to do and fast or else those fuckers are going to be sitting on their asses all day. Oh and they're coming from across the river.. how fitting..

File: 1370319031131.png (477.1 KB, 1265x732, 12dangdirtyelvesjewingmahs….png)

GREAT MORE JEWS. I MEAN BLACKS. I MEAN ELVES. DANG. DIRTY. ELVES. Bah, they might have good shit to trade, and by good shit to trade I mean shitty supplies.

File: 1370319212218.png (141.54 KB, 1275x736, 13OHBOYSUMMER.png)

File: 1370319309428.png (252.86 KB, 1280x739, 14RITHFEYMOOD.png)

Got dammit, I think Rith has contracted… THE GAY… and by THE GAY, I mean a fey mood, whatever the hell that means. He's off to build something by himself in a secluded section of the fort, so fuck him, dang ass… dingily dwarf..

File: 1370319474339.png (366.07 KB, 1275x738, 15rithcarpetworkshoptaken.png)

God dammit Rith, if your going to be a faggot, please don't gay up the carpentry workshop. I need that to build shit, like, uh, wood doors and shit. Fuck you Rith.

File: 1370319618983.png (242.13 KB, 1271x736, 16rithmakingsomething.png)

You know what Rith? Fine, fuck you, I don't even like that workshop, the wood has splinters, it's dank, smells like dwarf farts, and has a hint smell of booze, so fuck you, have your shitty workshop, I hope you CHOKE on whatever you're build-

File: 1370319710619.png (282.38 KB, 1278x736, 17creationofathingrith.png)

Huh… that's kinda neato, I guess.

File: 1370319793241.png (395.31 KB, 1275x737, 18morefuckingmigrants.png)

Great… more Mexican's… not that there's anything wrong with that.

File: 1370319890208.png (170.54 KB, 1271x736, 19morespaceforstorage.png)

Well I noticed the storage area the fort had was not NEARLY big enough to contain all the shit needed to survive, so I've made a new storage area a floor above and put the new migrants to work by having them dig and haul all the rock. That will keep them off their asses for a bit.

File: 1370319936611.png (74.24 KB, 1277x739, 20humancaravanishere.png)

What the fuck is a human caravan? That sound awful, and by awful I mean extremely tedious.

File: 1370320026008.png (105.95 KB, 1271x738, 21dyinganimals.png)

So I noticed the first day that I walked into this fort that, for some odd reason, all the animals were dying, naturally I had no idea why, nor did I care enough to find a solution. Who the fuck needs animals anyway? Not me, no sir. Animals are assholes anyway.

File: 1370320275309.png (396.06 KB, 1278x736, 22MOREFUCKINGMIGRANTS.png)

File: 1370320365152.png (377.35 KB, 1278x736, 23Identakestheshop.png)

Iden.. please.. not you too, I can't take much more of this.. dang it! I need those workshops you know…

File: 1370320442493.png (300.24 KB, 1273x735, 24moreroomfortehwoodlel.png)

Not only did I noticed we didn't have enough room for general storage, I also noticed we didn't have enough room for all the wood that was chopped down, so I expanded the wood storage area. That should take care of that.

File: 1370320488564.png (134.59 KB, 1275x734, 25Asmelmasterpiece.png)

Uh.. okay. When did that happen?

File: 1370320600451.png (174.09 KB, 1272x731, 26vampiresmanagernowthisca….png)

Well, after observing TWILY walking back and forth for who know how long, I decided to make another dwarf the manager. Little did I know that dwarf didn't do much managing either as he kept going on breaks, so naturally I had his shins capped and I assigned the entombed vampire as the manager. THIS CAN'T GO WRONG!

File: 1370320752280.png (364.74 KB, 1276x729, 27OHSHITOHSHITOHSHITFUCKFU….png)

Iden's acting up again, too panicked to care.

File: 1370321292086.png (232.92 KB, 1273x731, 32morejunkspace.png)

AH, the storage space is complete, time to, uh, store shit, I guess.

>Your request looks automated. Post discarded.
You know what, fuck you too

File: 1370322244900.png (106.44 KB, 1273x733, 33idenwhatrudoingthereurno….png)

OKAY. So Iden likes building mysterious objects in pits of shallow water. THAT'S COOL. Don't let me stop you! You.. crazy.. fucking dang ass dwarf

File: 1370322445936.png (323 KB, 1278x736, 35echwhatamess.png)

SPEAKING OF DANK DIRTY WATER, the mess left over from the flooding caused by SOME CARELESS DWARF, I'm not pointing any fingers. All in all it's cleaning itself up so no harm no foul.

File: 1370322477715.png (333.56 KB, 1272x729, 34Idenmadesomething.png)

Iden finishes said object. Apparently sitting in pools of shallow, dank, murky pools of water helps him vib, audino.

File: 1370322578722.png (515.63 KB, 1278x731, 36nirurucaravangoddamdangl….png)

Oh.. goody.. a caravan, I love these… no honestly I do. With. All. My. Heart.

File: 1370322638742.png (344.42 KB, 1272x735, 37burrowname.png)

I could not think of a better name for this cesspool of a fort. It's not like I hate this place or anything ~

File: 1370322713495.png (379.73 KB, 1275x739, 38woahthefuckisthishit.png)

WOAH, WHAT? HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN DOWN HERE?! Well, fuck, I know what I'm doing for the next few days!

File: 1370322840351.png (362.95 KB, 1275x740, 39crisisavertedfinally.png)

If your answer to the last report was "digging a staircase straight down to gain access to said cavern" then you'd be partially right, and by partially right I mean COMPLETELY WRONG! I need to clean this mess up. Naturally I don't know how to, SO FUCK IT, TO THE CAVERN THING WITH ALL THE SPOOKY STUFF.

File: 1370322899913.png (339.66 KB, 1275x737, 40Uvashmysteriousobject.png)

Oh, Uvash has contracted THE GAY, oh boy, oh boy!

File: 1370322975580.png (167.86 KB, 1275x732, 41whattheshitisthat.png)

Oh god, what is that? No, seriously, what the fuck is that thing? A lava fish? This isn't fucking monster hunter, WHAT THE SHIT IS THAT?! 5spooky12me

File: 1370323045155.png (225.17 KB, 1275x738, 42wooptyfuckingdo.png)

Oh jeeze this thing is getting silly

Ok then, you're up! Go for it.

I was almost finished then the multi post gadget crashes. I'm cry. one moment.

File: 1370759605825.png (23.18 KB, 674x743, dorfy3.PNG)

I begin by acquainting myself with the base.
After that, I delve into the earth in search for metals to create fearsome armies with.

File: 1370759748595.png (212.98 KB, 812x631, dorfy2.PNG)

Feeling uneasy with a huge backdoor into a wild cave system under the base I seal it up. However Twily takes her(his?) sweet time architecting it.

File: 1370759827843.png (56.73 KB, 812x631, dorfy1.PNG)

A rat sneaks in and starts wrecking everything.

File: 1370759885453.png (15.32 KB, 674x743, dorfy4.PNG)

File: 1370759982309.png (70.17 KB, 812x631, dorfy5.PNG)

Obviously reeling from its shameful display in the mines, it travels up the shafts into the main base, hungry for dorf.

File: 1370760014201.png (103.67 KB, 812x631, dorfy6.PNG)

Nathan was waiting.

File: 1370760074599.png (25.37 KB, 674x743, dorfy7.PNG)

Needless to say, Nathan chopped the rat into hamburger. He emerged a hero that day.

File: 1370760156056.png (55.92 KB, 1604x904, dorfy8.PNG)

Unfortunately the first mining level did not have much on it, so I went a bit deeper to try again. It did not get far.

File: 1370760181139.png (33.16 KB, 336x487, dorfy9.PNG)

Here are some migrants.

File: 1370760231885.png (71.97 KB, 564x672, dorfy10.PNG)

Right after that, Marker decides now to be the perfect time to make a thing.

File: 1370760307573.png (86.22 KB, 564x672, dorfy11.PNG)

A masonry table! I am filled with anticipation!

File: 1370760346847.png (86.42 KB, 564x672, dorfy12.PNG)

A table. Honestly I would have preferred another grate or something.

File: 1370760397549.png (16.08 KB, 564x672, dorfy13.PNG)

At least it has cabochons. The cabochons redeem it.

Good job Marker.

File: 1370760508306.png (57.34 KB, 564x672, dorfy14.PNG)

Fortunately for me, the first mining level was not completely barren: I GOT GOLD.

File: 1370760610752.png (65.13 KB, 564x672, dorfy15.PNG)

I also took the liberty of expanding the shafts down and ended up opening up another cave system. I paid no mind to it.

File: 1370760632643.png (15.31 KB, 333x194, dorfy16.PNG)

Even more migrants.

File: 1370760676327.png (59.53 KB, 564x672, dorfy17.PNG)

In a similar pattern, Tex decides to go brood in a corner.

File: 1370760702716.png (173.23 KB, 785x900, dorfy18.PNG)

One left gauntlet.

File: 1370760821048.png (53.24 KB, 785x900, dorfy19.PNG)

At least it's a badass one left gauntlet, I mean, It's got spikes that stab you when you try to put it on; not to mention the gems and little pictures of guys and cats. This glove is officially hype as shit.

File: 1370760913978.png (14.09 KB, 331x216, dorfy20.PNG)

And then more migrants. It was somewhat boring in that nothing notable happened aside from Tex making the One Left Gauntlet.

File: 1370761055738.png (45.97 KB, 905x662, dorfy21.PNG)

Also MORE GOLD (galena and copper too, but who cares about those shit-tier ores)

File: 1370761162156.png (40.22 KB, 905x662, dorfy22.PNG)

Tropico: Dwarf Fortress Edition

In which El Presidente makes golden statues to raise the spirits of his subterranean subjects.

File: 1370761250226.png (27.18 KB, 905x662, dorfy23.PNG)

Anyways, feeling the need to circumvent the water blocking the upper mines, I delve deeper into the earth.

File: 1370761267392.png (45.16 KB, 921x1036, dorfy24.PNG)

That should do it.

File: 1370761289282.png (196.77 KB, 955x676, dorfy25.PNG)

And then THIS kid.

File: 1370761503784.png (183.64 KB, 955x676, dorfy26.PNG)

Note: this happened at the exact same moment as the kid.

Also: a Dwarven caravan is off screen. I will let you astute reader infer what the conclusion will be.

File: 1370761551809.png (44.9 KB, 955x676, dorfy28.PNG)

File: 1370761659217.png (171.25 KB, 955x676, dorfy29.PNG)

The kid makes an exact stone replica of some guy,

File: 1370761748696.png (60.72 KB, 955x676, dorfy30.PNG)

Well, not exact. This guy probably didn't have as unhealthy an obsession with bucklers as portrayed. Also, cabochons. Fear the cabochon!

File: 1370761875601.png (154.22 KB, 955x676, dorfy31.PNG)

TL;dr some fishermen died trying to run, then the caravan guards annihilated the goblins. Not too bad.

Look, horses!

File: 1370761999370.png (143.69 KB, 799x456, dorfy27.PNG)

Some time in between all that, El Presidente completes his most ambitious project: putting a bunch of golden statues in the dining hall. The fortress will never be the same.

File: 1370762100250.png (142.33 KB, 955x676, dorfy32.PNG)

File: 1370762185698.png (115.71 KB, 955x676, dorfy33.PNG)

Nathan demonstrates his prowess by chopping a goblin into hamburger after his previous performance with the rat.

File: 1370762268926.png (157.87 KB, 955x676, dorfy34.PNG)

Before I forgot: I named the kid (as well as other previously unnamed artifact makers) after previous keepers of the fortress.

File: 1370762346921.png (70.9 KB, 799x456, dorfy36.PNG)

I give the mayor what he deserves: a fully golden set of rooms because why not?

File: 1370762435217.png (119.24 KB, 955x676, dorfy35.PNG)

Time flies by so fast.

Also why is that guy crying, life is great in the golden city.

File: 1370762512740.png (139.27 KB, 955x676, dorfy37.PNG)

File: 1370762591975.png (172.85 KB, 1261x709, DorfyArts.png)

Also, some MSPaint fanart. This took longer than it looks.
